BIOGRAPHY

Hi, I'm Sara! I am a freelance musician, teacher and reed maker in the Metro Detroit area. In May of 2022 I graduated from Florida State University with my Master's in Oboe Performance. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Central Michigan University.
My primary teachers have been (and still are!) Dr. Eric Ohlsson, Dr. Lindabeth Binkley, Dr. Sara Fraker, and Roger Rehm.

Sara Hammelef is a freelance musician, teacher, and reed-maker based in Novi, MI. She currently teaches a studio of online and in person oboe lessons to students of various ages and experience levels, conducts masterclasses, sectionals, and teaches summer band camps for area high schoolers. While Oboe and English Horn are her primary instruments, Sara also doubles on flute/piccolo, clarinet, and saxophone.

 

Sara regularly performs with the Flint Symphony and Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestras and has been on tour with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. She has also performed with the Tallahassee Symphony and Alpena Symphony (MI). In 2022 she graduated from Florida State University with a Master's degree in oboe performance studying with Dr. Eric Ohlsson, where she taught oboe methods, undergraduate lessons, and performed administrative tasks for the studio. Prior to this she studied with Dr. Lindabeth Binkley while obtaining a Bachelor's degree in music education from Central Michigan University. Her other primary teachers include Dr. Sara Fraker and Roger Rehm.
